Preparation for specialist study

Image
Future plans After i complete this course, I will go onto studying at university to get a degree in Literature and Theatre. My passion for acting and performing combined with my for English literature creates the perfect combination. I plan on going to stay in the University Of Essex for 3 years to further develop my acting/reading writing skills. When I first started the year i possessed skills of; Good memory/ability to learn lines-  This is an important skill to have as when rehearsing for a play, if i'm able to learn lines quickly, i can focus on other things like my stage presence, vocal projection, stage awareness etc. All of these things are so much more easier when you don't have a script in front of your hand. Also having good memory can benefit for not only learning lines but also helps with remembering cues, stage positions etc. Confidence This is very crucial to have as an actor as every good actor shows confidence in their wor. I am able to show po...

Beginning of term/ Focus on Stan Theories

Image
Morning Lesson  We focused on a majority of stans theories including circle of attention. Magic of, thought process etc. We started with a relaxed exercise going round the room asking everyone one by one to give a brief summary of how their holiday was, who they spent time with, if they received any gifts etc. This small exercise helped everyone to practice building a narrative as talking about what they’ve previously done is almost like telling a story and encourages to focus their attention on one person in the room which prepared us for the next bigger exercise where we were going to put in practice the actual center of attention. In the actual exercise we were split into two of the and did an exercies that was beneficial to our observational skills. Each of took turns observing one another from head to toe, for about 30 seconds and tring to remember as much as we could as possible. After the 30 seconds we had to close our eyes and tell each other what we saw on on...

Three sisters

Image
Three sisters Week one We opened the script and started to read it all as a group. To get a general feel of the play our teacher told us major events of the play and we got introduced to the main characters. The three sisters of the play are (in order) Olga, the oldest 28, Masha 23, and Irina. As a grouped we gathered some of the themes of the play are Politics, Relationships, Class, Dissatisfaction, Family and conflict. We all read through the first scene and went over it a few times and we talked about potential blocking. So we got up and put this into action. As a group we discussed characterization, using gestures or tones of voice. So, when i look at a line from Irina in act two 'We move back in June, until then there's February March, April May almost half a year'. I used my voice to sound as distraught as possible and used my fingers to count the months and stress how dissatisfied with my current situation and given circumstance. Rehearsals  and practic...

The York Realist Peter Gill

Image
The York Realist Week 1 When we were introduced to this play we were also introduced to the quote 'I live here. I live here. You can't see that though. You can't see it. This is where i live. Here.' As a class we all tried to decipher what this quote meant, and we all had different interpretations of it, however some people also had similar thoughts on it . A few people suggested that it could possibly be an immigrant in a different country trying to get through to a person that they now belong in this country, hence the phrase, 'you can't see that'. Me and a few others noticed that the repetition of, 'I live here, I live here' reminded us of a childlike way of speaking. The repetition of 'you can't see, you can't see' also sounds desperate and a cry for attention, like a child throwing a tantrum. We were also discussing the context of which this quote was said and we all decided that it would be said in some sort of confli...

Performance of Romeo and Juliet

Evaluation of the performance At  the start of the day we met at the Shaw theatre and we had an hour long tech run, this as including props and everyone in their full costume. We had someone from the Shakespeare School Festival Company overseeing our run through and telling us where and when to stop. After that, it was time for our dress rehearsal in front of the other school who was performing 'A midsummer's night dream', we did the same after as we had a preview of their dress rehearsal too. After that we had a break and were allowed to leave the building but were ordered to be back by 6pm so we could prepare and get our physical and vocal warm ups done. All of the four schools participated in this warm up on stage and it help everyone's enunciation/articulation skills ready fro the show and also everybody's energy back up seeing as we had just come from a long break. Were were then informed that the order of the show would be starting with 'Macbeth', t...

Rehearsals/ Casting for Romeo and Juliet

When the casting was done, unfortunately since i had enrolled onto the college late i wasn't giving the luxury of auditioning for my preferred role. I was given the role of the apothecary. So I did made do with the best that i could. And did a lot of outside research about what an apothecary actually was, the role it was classed in society and they were treated in society. We worked on staging certain scenes and blocking entrances and exits etc. Towards the second half of the play is when we have to particularly focus on the staging. As of recent we worked on the scenes from the start to the party scene, we later performed this in front of other performing arts students and worked on it in a workshop at the Conway Hall. Workshop with Shakespeare school festival at Conway hall To start the day, we had a physical and vocal warm up to prep ourselves for performing, much like we do in class with our teachers. This helps with our speech articulation and it also helps with our...

Context

Context for Romeo and Juliet It is important as actors we notice all the differences between modern day theatre and Elizabethan theatre as it highlights how much theatre has changed throughout time whether in a negative way or a positive way. These changes can be deciphered through things like modern day technology or different acting styles etc.  In terms of technology, modern day performances are enhanced by the use of microphones which causes the audience to be able to hear and understand everything the actors are saying clearly. Stage lights also help with enhancing theatrical experience as they can direct and re direct light for audience members to focus on certain aspects. In comparison to Shakespearean theatre when lights weren't accessible, the actors were forced to draw attention to themselves, meaning the use of melodramatic acting was often used to capture the audiences attention. The stage lights are also smartly used to hide stage and prop changes ...

Context/ research Refugee facts What is a refugee A refugee is someone seeking protection from a safe country, other than the country from which their lives are in danger for reasons such as race religion, nationality, membership of a social group, or political opinion is outside of their nationality and is unwilling to avail themselves of the protection of that country. An Asylum seeker is someone is someone that has now arrived in a country asking/seeking for asylum. They are called asylum seekers as they have not yet received a decision on whether they are a refugee or not. However, even though they are not labelled a refugee they do not have the same rights and privileges as a British citizen does, like being able to work etc. Everyone has a right to seek asylum as this process is 100% legal as well as being refused asylum is still legal because it is not a crime for people not being able to prove they need protection as a refugee as the criteria is extremely strict. The...
